Ian was appointed Managing Director, Kmart Australia in February 2016 and assumed the responsibility for leading the Kmart Group division (encompassing the Kmart Australia, Target Australia and Catch Group businesses) in November 2018. Prior to this, Ian was Kmart’s Chief Operating Officer where he was instrumental in Kmart’s turnaround. Ian’s experience, both national and international, covers a number of industries including retail, professional services, consulting, technology and healthcare in positions that include general management, sales, business development and project management. Ian holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and has completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.

Arjun leads the KGA team and is responsible for driving the sourcing strategy for the Kmart Group and managing the operations of the KGA Group in Asia. He also oversees the group’s GCC in Bangalore, KAS Services, an innovation and technology services hub that operates as an extension of the Kmart Group. Arjun is a widely recognized and seasoned retail industry leader with rich experience of over 20 years in the industry. Over these years, his contributions have been instrumental in successfully shaping and executing the merchandising and sourcing strategies of leading retail organizations both on the demand and supply side. Prior, he was associated with Li & Fung, Direct Sourcing Group, Busana Apparel Group and Arvind Mills. Arjun is based in Gurgaon, India.

John Gualtieri is the Retail Director of Kmart Australia and New Zealand which has more than 230 stores and is recognised as one of the most profitable discount department stores in Australia. John commenced with Kmart Australia in 2008 as Divisional Merchandise Manager for the Home Division and in 2010 was appointed to General Manager of General Merchandise & Store Renewal. In 2016 was appointed to Chief Operating Officer managing multiple teams across many functions/business units. Has led Planning, Buying Merchandise and Store Renewal teams and has worked with Suppliers and Retailers across Asia, UK and USA. With the appointment to Retail Director in 2019, John’s experience, both national and international covers a number of industries and he is a very focussed and proactive Retail Leader driven by the desire to deliver strong results. John holds a Bachelor of Business Degree with a major in Accounting and minor in Law And has completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.

Callum Smith is a member of the Kmart Leadership Team and is currently the General Manager of General Merchandise at Kmart, the predominant department store across Australia and New Zealand. Callum holds end-to-end responsibility for leading the customer proposition across General Merchandise to ensure we continue to stay relevant to our customers, exceed their expectations, grow market share and disrupt the market. He’s role straddles the core competencies of strategy formulation, operational execution and leadership & culture. A long-term team member, he has been with Kmart for 17 years working his way up through the organisation after starting his journey with the business as a casual shop assistant in our Brandon Park store in Melbourne, Victoria. Over his tenure, he has worked in numerous roles within the Merchandise and Marketing functions. He has also been an integral part of the transformation of Kmart business over the last 10 years overseeing and implementing various projects in a leadership capacity. Callum is a passionate and driven retail executive focused on people development, building high performance teams, customer first decision making and delivering consistent results.

Mandy Ma is General Manager of General Merchandise based in Shanghai office in KAS, the global sourcing entity of the Kmart Group, one of Australia’s largest and most successful retail groups. Mandy is responsible for developing global sourcing business with an annual overturn of $1.1 billion. Mandy Ma has 30 years working experience in manufacturing, trading and buying office. She has developed her career with Australia’s leading retailer Kmart starting from 2004, and now is leading a team of 160 across multiple geographies including Shanghai, Hong Kong and India. With the motto of “Work hard, play hard”, Mandy strives to build a high-performance team as well as create an enjoyable work environment. Under her leadership, the team has won several corporate awards for outstanding performance.

Julie has held senior leadership roles in Australia, the UK and Italy during her 30-year retail career and is currently the General Manager of Apparel & Design at Kmart. Julie has been with Kmart for 10 years. Her input was instrumental in developing the strategic vision to connect and engage with customers through the delivery of more desirable product at lower prices. This resulted in the successful growth of the Home division and repositioned the home offer as a low-cost destination for on trend homewares. More recently, in her role as GM of Apparel & Design, Julie has developed an ambitious strategy to “Double Apparel” and has overseen the transformation of the Design team to be a more efficient, high performing team, and the delivery of a consistent design approach through a Product DNA Bible. Julie’s prior experience includes senior roles with FTSE100 Companies in the UK involving own brand development, including the role of Trading Director at House of Fraser and Category Manager at Homebase. Julie also spent time spent in Italy where she developed retail opportunities for an Umbrian Consortium. Julie started her career in Buying, building strong foundations with Country Road, Myer and David Jones.

Virender Sharma

Virender Sharma is the General manager at KAS India Direct Sourcing Pvt. Ltd., the Asia sourcing hub of the Kmart Group, one of Australia’s largest and most successful retail groups. He is based in the KAS India office at Gurgaon. Virender has over 20 years of global experience in multiple roles working across the supply chain with organisations such PVH, Li & Fung and manufacturing companies. In his most recent role, he has been based in the United States since 2018 as Director of Global Supply Chain for the Calvin Klein North American business. While being responsible for management of a global vendor base across China, Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Mauritius, Kenya, Ethiopia, Turkey and Central America, Virender has enhanced supplier partnerships through strategic relationships and also delivered operational excellence.  During his tenure he successfully created an agile supply chain with enhanced focus on central/south American countries while building and strengthening productive and valuable industry partnerships to drive collaboration and engagement. At KAS, Virender is responsible for improving operational efficiency, building supply chain transparency, and developing capability to deliver better products to our customers in the most cost-effective manner possible. He is also focussing on reducing lead times to deliver on the KGA strategy of creating an ‘Agile Supply Chain with Less Stock’, managing the KAS merchandising and quality teams based in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Bangladesh and India.

Marina Joanou is the Managing Director of Target Australia. Marina was appointed to the role of Managing Director in August 2018 and is accountable for leading the strategic direction of the business. In her previous role as Chief Financial Officer for Wesfarmers Department Stores, Marina was Director of Kmart Australia, Target Australia and Chairperson of the Kmart Tyre and Auto business. Marina commenced with Kmart in 2007 and as an integral member of the leadership team played a significant role in the brand’s turnaround success story. In 2016, she was appointed Chief Financial Officer Department Stores, bringing together the Kmart and Target businesses under the one divisional banner. Marina commenced her career in professional services with KPMG in Sydney, which then led to her to Melbourne with Mayne Group as Manager of M&A. In 2004, she joined the Coles Group in the Supermarkets division and held a number of roles spanning in commercial & strategic investment, business development, financial accounting and project management prior to commencing with Kmart as Financial Controller. Marina holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting & Finance) degree and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. She is also the mum of two boys, Christopher (9 years old) and Nikolaos (7 years old).

Tristram is the Chief People & Capability Officer for the Kmart Group. Tristram joined the Kmart business in February 2018 as the General Manager Human Resources. Upon the establishment of the Kmart Group in January 2019, Tristram was appointed to Chief People & Capability Officer for the Kmart Group globally and leads the People & Capability function which spans Kmart and Target (Australia and New Zealand), Kmart Group Asia, Anko International and recently acquired Australian online retailer Catch. Tristram is responsible for the Kmart Group’s People Strategy with key focus areas on Talent, Culture, Leadership, People Systems and the Future of Work for over 50,000 team members. Prior to Kmart, Tristram was the Vice President and Head of Human Resources for Ericsson South East Asia, Oceania and India where he led an award-winning team based in over ten countries, covering 40 markets and approximately 17,000 employees and was responsible for Ericsson’s People Strategy in the region. Prior to this Tristram held other senior HR roles within Ericsson and several senior HR and Employee Relations roles with some of Australia’s largest national retailers as part of the Coles Group. Tristram commenced his career as an industrial relations specialist in the construction industry. Tristram’s career has spanned more than 25 years, in complex, varied business environments, cultures and industries – ranging from those experiencing rapid growth to those which have required a fundamental business turnaround. He holds a Bachelor of Business, Double Major in Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management from Edith Cowan University, Western Australia. He is also an alumnus of the Columbia University in New York and the University of Boston Executive Programs.

Nicole Szujda is the General Manager of Merchandise at Target Australia. Nicole holds end-to-end responsibility for merchandise team including quality, design, buying, planning and inventory. The team works in partnership the Target Australia Sourcing team and our supplier partnerships. Nicole started at team member on the shop floor at Target and over her 25 years of retail experience has worked across the Wesfarmers group including Target, Coles, Kmart throughout the turnaround and then returning to Target in 2019. Nicole has strong experience cross functionally leading teams across buying and sourcing and operations and supply chain. Nicole is extremely passionate about the Target brand and its 90 year heritage in the Australian retail landscape. The business remains committed to inspiring families to live better by making it easy for our customers to afford quality and style through a more focused store network and digitally enabled offering.

Mridul Dasgupta is General Manager, TAS Sourcing and Quality. He manages this function across all categories of Soft and Hard Goods. Mridul has over 26 years of varied experience in manufacturing and sourcing organisations. Prior to joining TAS, Mridul was heading up the Macy’s, India operations as General Manager. Before joining the buying side of the business, Mridul has worked in buying agencies like Triburg, and manufacturing companies like Gokaldas Images in Bangalore and Busana Apparel Group in Jakarta, Indonesia. Mridul has hands on experience in the areas of sourcing and quality management across Clothing, Footwear and Home product categories.  He is passionate about product and believes in working very closely with his teams and suppliers. He enjoys reading, watching movies and playing golf. Mridul also follows an Intermittent Fasting lifestyle.

Aleks was appointed Kmart Group CFO in February 2020. Aleks joined Wesfarmers in April 2008 in Business Development.  She has held various roles at Wesfarmers, including Executive General Manager, Company Secretariat & Group Risk and General Manager Investor Relations. In 2013 she moved to Target where she held general management positions in property and operations. Aleks holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) and a Doctor of Philosophy from The University of Western Australia.

Tracie Walker is the General Manager of Corporate Affairs & Sustainability for Kmart Group comprising of Kmart Australia, Target Australia & Catch. Tracie’s current responsibilities include media and reputation management of the Kmart Group with input on strategic business decisions and initiatives to achieve best practice outcomes with key stakeholders – team members, customers, media, shareholders, communities, government and lobby and interest groups both in Australia and globally. Tracie’s role includes internal communications, brand and profile management, public relations, government affairs, investor relations, sustainable development, community engagement, corporate affairs team management and local and international event management. Tracie is a senior communications strategist and practitioner with extensive experience working at senior levels in major international businesses both in Australia and Japan in sectors as far ranging as retail, telecommunications and banking and she has worked on many international events including the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Before her current role Tracie was Corporate Affairs Manager for Coles Myer Limited and has also worked for other organisations such as Fujitsu, Optus, Westpac, ANZ Bank, National Australia Bank and City of Melbourne.

Laurie Lai is the GM of Marketing at Kmart. She leads across multiple sections of Marketing, including marketing strategy and brand activities, customer insights, visual merchandising, packaging design and customer service at Kmart in Australia and New Zealand. A marketing executive with over 25 years’ experience in retail, Laurie has been on the Kmart transformation journey since 2009.  Prior to Kmart Australia, Laurie was the Head of Marketing for the Food Retail Division in the A.S. Watson Group in Hong Kong for 12 years, responsible for marketing functionality of three industry-leading food retail chains and over 300 stores throughout Hong Kong and China. Laurie and her teams have been awarded the EFFIE (Marketing Effective Award) twice, in recognition of marketing campaigns judged to have delivered significant and measurable contribution to business results. Laurie urges the necessity of finding the right balance of creativity and technical facets in the modern marketing landscape.   She is passionate about continuing to build the Kmart brand, adding significant long term meaning to the brand beyond just offering on trend products at low prices.

Keith Roberts is General Manager of Online and Customer Experience at Kmart Australia and NZ. Prior to his current role, he spent eight years with the Virgin Group, the family office and investment company of Sir Richard Branson. He led Virgin Group’s licensing business (its most valuable business), Virgin Enterprises Limited, expanding into new business areas and significantly increasing royalty rates. He was also responsible for Virgin Group’s corporate development, brand, digital and strategy teams. He served as a non-executive director on the boards of Virgin Australia, Atlantic, Air Asia X, Virgin Mega and Virgin Limited Edition. Prior to Virgin he was at Bain and Company, one of the world’s premier management consulting firms, for nine years. He also co-founded and is director of New Zealand’s leading online marketplace linking homeowners with tradespeople, Builderscrack.co.nz.

Prior to joining Wesfarmers Limited, Mark worked in engineering research and resource appraisal roles following the completion of his undergraduate studies. Upon the completion of a Master of Business Administration degree, Mark joined Wesfarmers and worked in commercial and analytical roles within its Business Development department and with Gresham Private Equity. Following a return to the Wesfarmers corporate office in 2004 to oversee the Group’s strategic planning process, Mark then held commercial and finance related general management positions within various subsidiaries including CSBP (chemicals and fertilisers manufacturing) and Coles (food, convenience and liquor retailing). In July 2012 Mark returned to the Wesfarmers corporate office to the role of General Manager Investor Relations & Planning, serving and supporting Wesfarmers’ Finance Director, Managing Director and Chairman. In February 2016 Mark was appointed to the role of Chief Financial Officer, Target, leading and managing the Finance, Commercial, Compliance, Online and Information Technology teams. In January 2019, Mark moved to role of General Manager, Strategy, Online and Supply Chain, with operational oversight of Target’s ecommerce and supply chain activities. Mark currently holds the role of General Manager Digital, overseeing Target’s ecommerce, product development and customer insights and analytics functions. Mark holds Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Business Administration degrees from the University of Western Australia and has completed the Wesfarmers Executive Development Program and the Financial Services Institute of Australasia’s Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance and Investment. Mark is a director of a number of Target related companies and has been a Governor of The University of Notre Dame (Australia) and a member of its Business School Advisory Board.

Lil Velis-Bowker is General Manager of New Formats for Kmart Australia Limited, which is part of Kmart Group, one of Australia’s largest and most successful retail groups. Lil is responsible for creating new retail formats, driving digital-enabled innovation in Kmart stores to improve operations and to create new in-store experiences that respond to changing customer preferences, including a more seamless integration with online. Before May this year, Lil was Director of Anko International and responsible for developing global business opportunities for the Kmart Group through both wholesale and retail models that deliver sustainable and scalable growth. Prior to that, as General Manager of Multichannel, Lil was responsible for establishing Kmart’s digital business with a goal to develop an ecommerce model that supported scalable and profitable growth. Lil initially joined Kmart in 2011 to innovate and develop Kmart’s new retail format, Plan C. Lil has over 25 years’ experience in retail and consumer products following an early career in management consulting where she worked for top-tier international firms advising some of the largest companies in the US, Asia and Australia in strategy, retail, operations and supply chain management. Lil’s passion is innovation and transformation and is constantly focussing on creating a customer value proposition that exceeds expectations.

John Kenny is Director at KAS Services India, the innovation and technology hub of the Kmart Group, one of Australia’s largest and most successful retail groups. John holds end-to-end responsibility for leading the operations of the capability centre that supports the Kmart group in the areas of information technology, analytics, inventory, data platform and digital strategy. An accomplished senior management executive with 25 years of experience working with FTSE 100 and Fortune 500 companies as well as retailers in Australia, John has led large retail transformation, and diverse functional teams across Commercial, Facilities, Project delivery, Design and Finance Management roles. Prior to joining KAS services in 2018, John served a 7-year stint at Kmart Australia leading the retail transformation and prior he has managed a variety of leadership roles at the ASDA Walmart UK and Boots the Chemists UK. John is passionate about retail transformation and building functional strategy and is an active mentor for senior and executive leadership across the retail landscape.

Asker Laubjerg is a General Manager at KGA HK, overseeing ISC operations, technology and strategy for the sourcing group. His focus is to modernise the sourcing businesses through a digital lens and delivering a more responsive supply chain to serve the group’s retail brands better. A leader with KAS for the past 7 years, having held a variety of positions across ISC and sourcing, Asker previously worked for A.P. Moller Maersk across a number of commercial positions in Denmark, Indonesia and Australia. Asker is passionate about retail transformation and building high performance teams to deliver superior results.

Susheel Tanwar is the Head of Finance for KAS Group Asia (KGA) and is based out of Gurgaon. Susheel is heading the Finance, Risk and Procurement functions for KGA which includes KAS, TAS and KAS Services. In his role Susheel is responsible for driving the growth of business in a profitable and compliant manner. Susheel comes with a wealth of Finance and Procurement experience. He began his career more than 20 years back and has worked for GE Capital, Oracle, Juniper Networks and Airbnb across India and the United States. In his most recent role with Airbnb India, Susheel was the Director of Finance and control. Susheel is an alumnus of American institute of certified public accountants, Institute of cost accountants of India, Indian Institute of management (Bangalore) and University of Delhi.

Albert Yeung is the Head of Ethical Sourcing and is responsible for managing the Kmart Group Ethical Sourcing Program and driving the implementation of the Better Together sustainability initiatives in the Kmart Group global supply chain. Albert has over 20 years of experience in developing and managing Ethical Sourcing programs and creating sustainability values for multinational brands and retailers. Prior to joining KAS in 2011, Albert served as Senior Manager at Intertek responsible for leading the “Compliance Practitioners Initiative” program which aims to establish internationally recognized qualifications and governance framework for practitioners in auditing, inspection and testing industries; and also responsible for managing the “China Center for Labor and Environment” which is an online information platform designed to support Chinese suppliers on building their social and environmental capacity. Albert is based in Hong Kong and recently certified as a Climate Reality Leader in July 2020.

An accomplished leader with 16 years of experience working with Fortune 500 companies, Deepti has led large teams supporting business transformation, operational excellence, leadership and development roles. Dylan Martin Alcott, is an Australian wheelchair basketballer, wheelchair tennis player, radio host and motivational speaker. Alcott was a member of the Australia men's national wheelchair basketball team, known colloquially as the Australian "Rollers". At the age of 17 he became the youngest "Rollers" gold medal winner for wheelchair basketball, and was the youngest to compete in the Wheelchair Basketball competition. In 2014, he returned to wheelchair tennis with the aim of participating at the 2016 Rio Paralympics, at which he won gold medals in the Men's Quad Singles and Doubles. He was named the 2016 Australian Paralympian of the Year due to his outstanding achievements at Rio. Alongside his sporting career, he hosted the weekend afternoon radio show on Australian radio station Triple J, and the ABC live music show The Set, as well as being a commentator for the 2019 Australian Open. He also was a member of the panel on the AFL Footy Show in 2019. He is the only man to complete the Calendar-Year Grand Slam in quad doubles, winning all four major titles in 2019; in addition, he has also won a non-calendar year Grand Slam in quad singles.

As the head of Bain's Agile Innovation practice in Asia Pacific, Michael advises and provides training to client executives across the region.
